The Reading Chapter of

KADIMA

February 3, 2005

Dear Friends:

The Kids of Reading Kadima invite you to join us.  Kadima is a youth group sponsored through United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and open to all Jewish students in grades 4, 5, 6, & 7 regardless of affiliation.  We plan fun local activities, often with Jewish themes, throughout the year.  We also participate in regional Kadima events.  These events are wonderful opportunities for our children in Reading to meet other Jewish kids from communities throughout eastern Pennsylvania.

Reading Kadima offers families two options:

1)                  Our regular membership for students in grades 5, 6, and 7 is $18.00.  This rate enables students to attend all our local activities plus regional events.

2)                We are also offering a Local-Only membership rate of $10.00.  This rate is open to all 4th graders plus anyone who would prefer to participate in just our local activities.

The choice is yours.

Kadima has a wonderful schedule of activities planned for the remainder of the season.  Our next event is coming up soon.  By popular demand, we will be going rock-climbing at Cliffhangers gym located near the Fairgrounds Square Mall on Sunday, February 13 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM.  Please see the sign-up sheet for more details.  We will need additional adults on hand for belaying/spotting.  Please RSVP as soon as possible so we can confirm our arrangements.

On Sunday, March 13, Kadima will be participating in Mitzvah Blitzvah Day.  Our youth group will be raising money for the Jewish National Fund by participating in the Mitzvah Mile Walk through City Park.  While we are walking to help the environment in Israel we will be cleaning up our own environment by picking up trash and spreading seed for the local birds.  We hope everyone can join us in our Tikkun Olam project.

Eastern Pennsylvania Region of Kadima will be holding this year’s Shabbaton on March 18 – 20, 2005 at B’nai Abraham in Easton.  Everyone in grades 5th – 7th who is registered with Regional Kadima is welcome to attend.  If you have not yet registered and are interested in participating, please let us know as soon as possible.  The more, the merrier!

This year Passover will be introduced with a sweet twist.  On Sunday, April 17, Kadima will be participating in a Chocolate Seder.  Several members of our Kadima chapter attended one of these wacky seders last year in West Chester and wanted to bring the fun home to Reading.  We hope you all will attend.  More details about this chocolaty feast will follow.

This year the holiday of Lag Ba’Omer falls on Friday evening, May 27.  Two joyous occasions in one!  To celebrate, we are planning to have a Kadima Lag Ba’Omer picnic and potluck Shabbos dinner together in the late afternoon / evening.  The location of this festive meal will be announced closer in the spring.  Save the date!

The end of the year event for Regional Kadima and USY at Hershey Park will be held on Sunday, June 5.  The fun is open to everyone regardless of your choice of registration.  Flyers describing this day will be sent as soon as they are available.

Please feel free to call us with any questions.  Remember to send in your responses for the rock climbing before February 11th.  See you at the gym!

                                                                   Shalom,
